I’ve had to learn to overcome challenges in life just like everyone else. However, the most pervasive one was the eating disorder that I developed at an early age as a coping mechanism to deal with my stressors.

These frigging eating disorders wreak absolute havoc on one’s body, mind and soul – they rob your body of nutrition, they fixate your mind on body shape, weight and food, and strip your soul of any joy. Never mind trying to attend college, hold down a decent job, or have a successful relationship when you walk around feeling like a hollow shell of a being most of the time.

For me, Bulimia led to low self-esteem, substance abuse, depression, and at the lowest point, suicidal thoughts and a couple of overdoses on prescription medication.

Thankfully, my maternal grandfather, who was always very health conscious insisted on taking me to see a naturopath. Among the treatments I received were a full body cleanse, an elimination diet, and homeopathic phenolic desensitization for serotonin and dopamine. “Homeopathic desensitization reduces sensitivity to these substances by neutralizing the body’s immune reaction to the substance that is causing the sensitivities. It does not involve increasing or decreasing the amounts of hormones or neurotransmitters naturally present in the body”(https://www.wellnesscenter.net/). I was able to get off the prescription medication and slowly my body began to heal.

Then I received the gift of Reiki (http://lightworkscanada.com/)... My first level attunement (connection to the universal reiki source) started a cleansing process of my mind and emotions. I was in for a bit of a bumpy ride, once everything started moving and I began releasing my old baggage. But I stuck it out and got through it, and even went back for my second level attunement.

I am so grateful to have Reiki energy in my life - it’s helped me heal my past traumas, strengthened my spiritual connection, increased my focus, grounding and being centred; given me a greater sense of well-being and peace.

Life is an ongoing journey filled with all kinds of lessons and I’ve come a long way since I was that broken young teenager! These days my life is as stressful as ever, but I’ve collected a stockpile of self-help tools over the years that I turn to when I need guidance or inspiration.

Today, I feel blessed with a wonderful husband, three precious fur-babies, a loving family, supportive friends, a rewarding job, and with this blog I am trying to fulfill a long-time dream of “giving back” to others who are looking for a glimmer of light at the other side of the tunnel.
